People with data caps are going to suffer from having to download such large files. People with slow internet speeds are going to suffer. The military is going to be flat-out incapable of using it—Nimitz-class carriers aren't famed for their robust Internet.
Yes, for a typical suburbanite the log-on every 24 hours is relatively unimportant, compared to the other issues. It's still important, though. I can and do pull out my N64 to play drunken games with friends. Will MS release a patch releasing the XBONE from DRM at the end of the console's lifespan? Those servers aren't going to stay up forever.
