So, long story short, the link below leads to a short, 4-page research survey being conducted by International Hobo, which is basically a game design think-tank.

One of the most important aspects of game design is the need to know your audience, and design with them in mind. For instance, you could look at a game like Nintendogs (or Spore!) and know that for many big gamers, which includes many of us, they are not particularly good games. But for their audience they have done very well.

Unfortunately, the game industry has lacked a common language about demographics, and the demographic models that many developers use are lacking in sophistication. Even professional game devs refer to broad, 1-dimensional groups of players like "casual players," "hardcore," "female gamers," etc. In contrast,IHobo has made it their mission to undertake and disseminate better models of demographics, exploring play styles, psychology, Myers-Briggs typology, frequency of play, gender, age, and other factors.

This survey is part of their second iteration on this, the "DGD2" model.

It should take between 5 and 10 minutes, so if you've got a minute, it'd be great for some of you to take part. And don't worry if you're not a big gamer; game devs understand that group fairly well; it's the casual players we need data on, hah.

Also, boo for open-ended questions.

I always want to mess with data. Like put in "Cubivore" or something.
