I need to play it, just to see how it all works, but fairly convinced that I will dislike it.

Simply due to the fact that the punishment for death is so extreme. I have very little interest in a game that essentially erases my save file when I make a couple mistakes. The rest of it could be absolutely perfect (as indeed many say it is), and that would still be enough to turn me off.
Demon's Souls is still good! Here's a pretty good summary.
