The Third Age: Total War mod is excellent, allowing you to fight the War of the Ring as one of several different sides. I particularly liked their ingenuity in replacing the Pope with Sauron :D

The Westeros: Total War mod should rock a lot more once we get it finished, but it's in a playable state now and allows you to take control of one of the seven major houses of Westeros and fight for control of the continent.

There was a Wheel of Time mod for Rome that was looking very sweet, but they never got to a release stage for it.
