not being able to respec is a pain


Click the link, it's for a respecialization addon. Just don't use it on Shale, the dog, or any characters that have a specialty subclass you haven't unlocked already (like Morrigan or Alistair if you haven't unlocked Shapeshifter or Templar, respectively).
