Think of it from a car standpoint. Maybe someone prefers Toyota cars, but if Honda came out with a fabulous sedan, they'd probably be interested in spite of their preferences. That said, they probably would NOT be interested in a work truck, regardless of how wonderful it was.
In this analogy, the car makers (Toyota and Honda) are the game developers, and the kind of vehicle (sedan, truck) are the genres. So by saying that people are more interested in the type of vehicle than in who makes that vehicle, you just argued for shadow's point. :p
