I would consider buying the old-school Baldur's Gate games. They're old school, but they really are what kicked off a lot of the RPG genre. And the first baldur's gate is really quite open game-play wise. Tons and Tons of side quests one can do.
I know that shouldn't matter, and it generally doesn't, but transitioning is still difficult. But then again, I have played Chrono Trigger recently and other such games, so I'd be fully capable of it. Thanks for the advice.
So I bought a computer... What games should I get for it?

If you like traditional CRPGs, definitely play The Witcher. Not perfect, but definitely worthwhile.
