There are some major compatibility issues to deal with sometimes.

They can generally be gotten around, but having problems with old games on new computers certainly isn't unheard of.
If you've played on Vista though (it's typically the OS that matters, rather than the hardware, in most cases) it'd probably be fine.

If you like traditional CRPGs, definitely play The Witcher. Not perfect, but definitely worthwhile.
