And my one major complaint with your review. . . Aemon Send a noteboard - 24/03/2010 03:39:56 AM
. . .is this.

There are no moments where the characters seem to struggle against their destiny, mainly because they accept it for various reasons early in their journey, so they cannot be considered to be "heroes" but they all are definitely melodramatic archetypes that resemble the superheroes of comic book pages.

I've played about 25 hours so far, and have seen LOADS of this kind of thing.

<White text spoilers:>

There are plenty of examples to give, because virtually everyone struggles against their "destiny." Lightning refuses to believe that she's supposed to save Cocoon in the beginning, and rages against the government. Snow is on the other side, struggling with the thought that he might be an enemy of Cocoon, despite what Serah told him. Hope creates a destiny for himself in order to keep from falling into despair, and spends the next 10 or so gameplay hours struggling with what he should do. Vanille knows she is an enemy of Cocoon, and knows what she's supposed to do, but she lies to her best friend and instigates an enormous political incident in order to avoid going back to it.

...The list just goes on and on. Now, maybe when I find out their REAL purpose (again, I'm only at 25 hours. No spoilers please!) I'll find that they accept it too readily. To say that they just take everything in stride and never struggle, however, is far from accurate. From what I've seen, the game is chock full of moral dilemma and indecision.

Thoughts? Maybe I didn't really understand what you were getting at?
