The most humiliating moment happened to me yesterday at the postal office.

I went to the post office up in Maine yesterday around noon with my husband to send out my nephew’s birthday present so it would get there by Saturday.
After the transaction, the postal office worker (who was quite well into his years, think the old man from Jurassic Park) said, “Ma’am, please step over to the side here for a moment.”
I thought he was going to ask me about my necklace. I was so wrong.
“You should really get that checked out at the dermatologist.” referring to my mole between my breasts.
There was a huge line of people behind Andrew and I. I was so shocked and humiliated that I said I already had and immediately walked out.
I just couldn’t believe how inappropriate he had been. I regretted going to the post office instead of UPS like Andrew was going to do. But, I wanted to give USPS some business. Next time when we’re up in Maine having to send a package out, that’s what we’ll to instead, though.
But, some old guy at the post office stared at my breasts enough that he thought he’d “do me a favour” and tell me about a mole I already knew about. I’m already self conscious about that mole and this just made it incredibly worse.. not to mention the audience we had.

If it were me, I would be utterly mortified. It appals me that some people can be so tactless.
It's more embarrassing for that old clerk than for you.
It was his gaffe, not yours, all the embarrassment is on him. On the other hand, I read these kind of "Dear Prudence" letters all the time, where people say "I saw a cancerous mole on a person, I want to warn them. Is it wrong to say something?" I believe the correct answer is not to say anything, unless you are a dermatologist doctor, and even then, it usually backwfires - people still get offended and self conscious.
I know it isn't much help, but the old dude's intentions were good. He just really miscalculated how creepy it would come across given our genders, ages,and the position of said mole. And it isn't the Postal Office's fault! Could have happened anywhere. Doesn't seem like anyone else there heard or knew what the old man said, did they?

I know his intentions were good.
But it was highly inappropriate in a work setting.
And yes, there were 3 or 4 other people there in the lobby who witnessed the whole thing.
And I've had the mole checked before and it's not cancerous.

It was just embarrassing and humiliating for me all around. Someone called yesterday investigating the matter. I had to describe what I was wearing. How much cleavage I had, etc. So, even more humiliation...
I didn't have any cleavage, anyway.
