I said Hooker.
Just because I've never heard of that one before.
are there any books with hooker-heros?
if so, why haven't i heard of them? someone "hook" me up here!! (pun intended and punch deserved)
Rhapsody was a hooker i think
Elizabeth Haydon was the author.
Other. Musician. *NM*
Hobo, you'd probably like the Spellsinger series, then
There's also the Soprano Sorceress series, but I never liked it that much.

Urchins for the win! They don't need your "manners" or "silverware!" They have WITS!
What about a 34 year old scientific researcher
on a Dutch university, who saves the world somewhere around, oh I don't know, next Tuesday?
Chosen One
Weird, I read the poll and I was thinking of the Forsaken in Wheel of Time. It seemed an odd question.
Hooker
Either male or female - they have the will to do something about hopeless situations and sell the only thing they have as an asset to make a living, thus they are more sympathetic.
Sales rep. Or rapper.
Obviously.
I voted hooker as well.
@Apsalar_Shadowdancer... Rhapsody was indeed a prostitute; was sheltered and raised in a brothel after her "disgraced" childhood and fleeing from home.

Also, in Feast of Souls (The Magister Trilogy by C.S. Friedman), the heroine Kamala was a prostitute before becoming a Magister. It was even hinted at that her apprenticeship to her Magister master involved sexual favors.

And isn't the protagonist in Kushiel's Legacy a courtesan?

Anyways, I think the hooker is a great background for would-be heroes. It adds depth to the character. Farmer is fine too, especially a certain fisher girl from Itko Kan. ;)
Um Celia you are forgetting Jaquiline Carey books *NM*
