Not yet, I will eventually - Edit 2

Before modification by Roland00 at 25/05/2017 02:30:29 PM

I am waiting for the tv series to have at least 1 season out before I watch it. I will not watch it all at once, but I want the option of watching it episode back to back if I feel compelled to do so instead of waiting 2 to 3 months to watch the show.

Now American Gods is a book, story, movie, tv show that you have to change it each time you retell it if the environment you tell it has lost meaning with the passage of time.

I do not know if this retelling is as good as the modern 2017 version, but lots of the themes are timeless but the objects in the 2001 book are dated. For example there is this quote from the books.

[The God of Technology is Speaking to Shadow in a Limo]

Tell [Mr. Wednesday] that we have fucking reprogrammed reality. Tell him that language is a virus and that religion is an operating system and that prayers are just so much fucking spam. Tell him that or I’ll fucking kill you.

The book was written in 2001, aka 3 years after you got mail. We had spam but now a days spam is not as it was in 2001. Hell G-Mail was not even introduced until 2004, spam besides being annoying may fill up your mail box wasting your time as you went through it and prevent you from getting real mail due to limited storage.

But now a days being information overloaded and decision fatigue is a different form of style for these icons. The metaphor is the same, but you have to update the icon of the metaphor to a more modern version where you are telling sensory overload of a different form. Instead of spam it would be Fake News that Technical Boy could literally make Shadow hallucinate and show him thousands of visual images and sounds. Images and sounds that are holograms that are overlaid onto reality and overwhelm shadows's vision and hearing. Shadow hears the god technical body but even the God's message is overwhelming for Shadow can't take all this information at once.

I have no clue...yet if American Gods is a good adaptation or not. I hope it will be though, it is one of my favorite stories of all time

Edit: forgot to add the quote box to make my quote more obvious it is from the book.
