Had a picnic, watched fireworks, talked a long time with one of the teachers in the high school my middle daughter is starting in the fall.

One of my father-in-law's neighbors feeds a small community of flying squirrels so after fireworks we went and stood quietly with flashlights near the feeder. Sure enough, after 5-10 minutes they started zipping through the trees back towards the feeder. (Our approach had no doubt temporarily chased them away, but they are pretty tame for flying squirrels and will even let you shine a flashlight on them for a bit) We snapped a few cell phone pics but I really wished that I had my SLR with my speedlight.

One of my daughters is a nut for squirrels so it was a good time.
