Ronald Reagan, had he never become president, would still be considered to have had an interesting and accomplished life, and achieved a considerable degree of fame prior to his election, but I and other people around my age first knew him as The President, and that awareness of him colored everything else we ever learned about him. Even references to him as The Gipper or allusions to "Bedtime for Bonzo" were things to do with the President, rather than baggage the man brought to the Oval Office.

And that's what today's kids are going to think about Trump. They will never have played his Monopoly-like real estate board game when the brown hair he sports on the box photo matched his actual appearance. His wife will forever be Melania, while Ivana, who added the infamous article to his name, will merely a footnote and prologue. Not to mention Marla Maples, whose scandalous emergence into the public eye was, at the time, viewed as the end of his public career. "The Apprentice" will be to today's youngest generation and their successors and descendants, something the President did in his past. They will see 80's cartoonists, Berke Breathed's & Gary Trudeau's obsessions with smearing Trump as prescient, rather than petty (assuming they are ever exposed to them, maybe in a college art class or something). All the public life of Trump, which we witnessed and experienced through the media, will merely be a prelude & backstory to his presidency, for people younger than ourselves.

It is strange to consider.
