I find the things they're doing with young people on this issue very troubling. - Edit 1

To get beyond the issue of transgenderism and some of the arguments in other threads in this post, I'll mostly stick to just as in this case and the issue around it, but refrain from going into other aspects. I'm not sure how much I want to get into the brouhaha above. I certainly have opinions and thoughts on the matter, but for some reason usually tread lightly (which is not my usual MO, clearly) in regards to this issue. The "science" and current dogmas surrounding transgenderism are murky at best and we should proceed with great care. Transgenderism has been politically and socially weaponized. That doesn't serve anyone well except those with an agenda beyond what is best for people who identify themselves as transgender.

But, for this case and others like it, regardless of any facts/opinions/feelings regarding transgenderism, they are making extraordinary changes to a young person's body while relying on very little beyond that's how the kid currently feels. Kids change their mind on shit all the time. Believe me, I know from personal experience just on the much less divisive and less-settled issue of homosexuality. My cousin's kid was convinced he was gay as a young teen. I'm not sure why. Kid didn't want no dick then or now. He's currently got one kid and another on the way. Living full time in Gottahavepussyville. What if being gay meant you had to do something to "help" the kid back then? Might have fucked him up! (not that he's not already fucked up in other ways. that whole family belongs on the Maury Povich show, but that's a post for another time)

So, you bring in the far more murky world of transgenderism and it's a whole other shit show. I've read a seemingly well researched statistic that almost half of all minor boys who express themselves as feeling transgender later change their mind. Almost half. (I think around a quarter of girls "change their mind" But, if we're going to abrogate all adult responsibility and let what has a very good chance of being something that's not even lasting inform upon MAJOR, sometimes completely irreversible, changes to their bodies, we've gone way too far down the rabbit hole. That's completely FUBAR. Counseling? Yes. Allowing them dress how they want or say they're not their genetic sex? Whatevs. But hormones and surgery? Hell to the fucking no.
