I no longer have the worn out paperback copy of The Godfather I once had, so from memory I seem to recall that Tom Hagen described his ancestry as German-Welsh in the book, not German-Irish as it was in the movie. A relatively minor point compared to the examples you provided but still annoying if my memory is correct.

As to the Hannibal Lector quote, he was depicted by Harris as having an IQ that was off the charts, hence he would never say test when he meant quantify. Plus he was an insufferable gourmand who's taste in wines ran towards bottles that cost thousands of dollars like Pétrus or d'Yquem. A big Amarone with sufficient bottle age to please his palette might run a hundreds rather than thousands, but a standard Chianti is not in the same league.
