Everything before The Hobbit hasn't made it to screen yet. So there is a lot of source material that can be made into a possibly good series.
DANIEL: It appears to be some sort of planetary history.
O'NEILL: Daniel, that's very nice, but focus on the altar.
DANIEL: Why?
TEAL'C: Malikai initiated the time loop by manipulating the symbols on the surface.
O'NEILL: Figure out the symbols, figure out how to stop this!
DANIEL: Just because someone can recognize symbols on a keyboard doesn't mean they can run a computer. If I can translate the rest of the text I can put the device in a proper context and figure out what it's supposed to do.

Just because the colors for an artist is on his Palette and he has infinite possibilities on his "kaleidoscope" does not mean beauty is than transferred to the Canvas. You need a skilled writer to take from the source material and create a tightly intertwined narrative. I doubt this is going to happen when the goal of making the tv show is already decided and you are in a crucible of deadlines and pressure from above.
Instead you should employ some writers who have at least a good rough draft of what they want to write from the source material and then we can use additional writers to polish and edit, and tightly intertwined and enhance the rough draft narrative.
I fear something like Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull instead of getting something like Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.
It's not like this is coming to network TV. I find this fear illogical. Oh, I share some fear and trepidation. But not to the point where I would not even try to bring some of the stories to screen.
