But to be serious for a minute, I would say the president has the right of it by trying to bring the parties back to the negotiating table. There aren't any good alternatives for this coalition, so despite Lindner's very understandable reluctance to get sucked into a coalition with not only Merkel but even the Greens as well, after the FDP only just got back into the Bundestag, he's going to have to get over it. Seems unlikely new elections would make much of a difference - the seat numbers might shift a little, but the main issue is just that there's six parties in the Bundestag now (or seven, depending on how you count the CSU), and I doubt that would change.
