Her ruinous immigration policy is what put her in the current position she's in and everyone knows it. Dump her off the boat (which would probably lift it a considerable amount given how fat the old bag is) and go back to sanity on immigration. It would kill the AfD and probably make a CDU-CSU either the dominant party by itself again, or allow for a coalition ONLY with FDP, which is doable.

Without her policy/lack of policy on the refugees, the AfD would have remained an anti-Euro party and it is possible that right now Germany would have a CDU/CSU/FDP government.

Everything surrounding the refugees has definitely affected German politics negatively. Merkel's statement was irresponsible to the 80 million Germans already living in Germany and to the hundreds of millions of people in the EU. Germany needs migration - but controlled and focused on skills. And focused on integrating these people and making Germans out them - with all that entails such as respect for democracy, human rights, gender equality, sexual orientation equality, etc.

Yes, it can take in refugees - but not as many as it did at once. One nation in the Schengen zone cannot make the type of statement she did.
