I can understand the particular vitriol Samantha Bee might express, being a female entertainer, who, next to Ivanka Trump, looks like she should be hoarding gold in a cavern or forging magic swords, but this has been an ongoing thing from the outset of the Trump presidency. Even before he DID anything, SNL had a skit imagining a brand of her perfume called "Complicit". Do these people honestly expect her to turn on her father, a billionaire who is currently the most powerful man in the universe, and will enjoy lifelong prestige and influence, regardless of what anyone thinks of him, from here on out? Do they want her to bet her future, with more than half her life theoretically ahead of her, against the man whose political career is a mockery of the odds, for their fickle approval? These people were all chummy with her and her father not so long ago, and I think they've amply demonstrated what that kind of friendship is worth.
And then there is the other, most disgusting, aspect of Bee's rant, the implication of a sexual relationship between Trump & Mrs Kushner. The basis of this not-original(because, Samantha Bee; why would you expect original? ) slur, as I understand it, are some possibly inappropriate comments Trump made about his then teenage daughter's appearance. Of course, Ivanka went on to become a professional model, so specific remarks about her physical assets take on a whole new interpretation. If a father brags about his teenage son's muscles or arm or physical shape, do we assume that he's gay for the kid, or do we think that maybe he's trying to encourage coaches or scouts to consider offering the son an opportunity to further his athletic career?
But even if the context of Trump's alleged remarks is such that there can be only one interpretation, these people are using a sexual abuse victim as a comic prop and political weapon! What if someone demanded one of Harvey Weinstein's so-courageous accusers to "slip into something tight" to induce Weinstein to remake The Hobbit?
But as near as I can tell, the fuss in all this is about Bee using the word "cunt" which seems to be the only thing she mentioned in her apology.
And of course, the whole thing started as part of some crocodile-tears act posturing in an attempt to claim some sort of moral high ground by lecturing the administration about "separating children from their parents". If not Bee, then almost all the rest of the Hollywood and left-wing media elite would have not the slightest problem with separating children from their parents if those parents doing something as dastardly as teaching children at home, or hesitating to turn them over to the corporate medical industry. I am willing to bet that someone who wanted to do the research could compile a substantial clip show of liberals suggesting, facetiously or not, that children of people with whom they disagree be taken from those parents. It's only when the parents are caught in the midst of incontrovertibly breaking a major federal law, arguably one of the federal laws that are among the sine qua non of a national government, that the bond between parent and child becomes sacrosanct.
What if conservatives started imploring Samantha Bee "as one mother to another" to speak out against the practice of murdering unborn children? How long would it take that side to denounce such tactics as abhorrent, disgusting and hypocritical?
Really, it's kind of sad. We can guess that Bee's father never had nearly the same occasion to be as complimentary to her looks as Ivanka's father, despite her having the same pathological need for attention characteristic of both the entertainment industry and politics. I really hope for her and her children's sake she married a man of more moral fiber than did Ivanka's mother. Her husband's job is pretending to be married to Natalie Zea! If he's at all typical of Hollywood, one of these days, he's just going to refuse to come home from work.
