The AI entity is named Norman in honor of Norman Bates from the movie Psycho. Poor Norman was driven over the edge, so to speak, by being nurtured on an endless stream of images from certain particularly vile subreddits. Notice from the link below Norman's perceptions when given a Rorschach test as compared to the results from a standard AI.

I can't help but think that in the standard AI destroys the world trope, it never starts out as evil. Nothing to see here, right? Move along...
