A weird thing in the Avengers: Endgame trailer Cannoli Send a noteboard - 02/04/2019 10:55:37 PM

"If we do this, we'd be going in short-handed" says Bruce Banner in the forthcoming movie. In response, Rhodes says "..because he killed all our friends" so they are specifically referring to the loss of several members in the snap at the end of Infinity War, so that makes sense, right?

Except the trailer is full of gearing-up montages and slow-walking group shots and people looking at each other and making plans. Basically, the main cast is not going to assemble in haphazard fashion on the field of battle the way they did the last time, when small groups of 2-5 superheroes would dive into a problem and meet up at the same destination. And that group we see getting together includes Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and hey... wait a minute! That's the entire roster with which they went up against Loki & the Chitauri! And Hulk only showed up on the battlefield for that one, so they already have more people than they went to war with in New York. But that's not all. We also have Captain Marvel, War Machine, Ant-Man, Rocket Raccoon and Nebula! That's 11 guys. They fought their Civil War with only six on each side. They went after Ultron with 9 guys (original six, plus Jarvis and the Maximov twins). They prepared to defend Wakanda with 8 (Steve, Sam, Bruce, Rhodes, Wanda, Natasha, Bucky, & T'Challa; Nikea & Jabari aren't Avengers & Jarvis didn't help or plan to), though Thor, Groot & Rocket showed up at the end to bring the total to 11. They fought Thanos on another-Titan-than-the-moon-in-our-system with 7 (Peters, Strange, Tony, Drax, Mantis & Nebula).

The team Assembling to face Thanos has as many guys on one side as the Avengers have ever brought to a fight. Also, they appear to be taking off from Earth in the Guardians' ship, which was last seen with Tony and Nebula, on a different planet than its last surviving crew member, so the survivors of the "Titan" fight are in on it from the get-go.

Now, in various trailers, we see Ant-Man and Captain Marvel showing up unexpectedly, and Tony isn't there for most of the HQ scenes (although Nebula is, and there is a shot of Tony & Nebula doing something mechanical, so presumably they are together in this, and we also see Pepper & Tony hugging, so unless they are giving away the happy ending, he's going to make it back to Earth before the mission kicks off), but that means the most charitable interpretation of that line is that Bruce was guessing wrong. But if Tony's not there when he says it, that makes him easily the smartest Avenger (IMO, even WITH Tony present), and he can't count to 7 and realize it's still more than their typical roster.
