Also, I'd say a separate story that intertwines with the plot of the series but doesn't follow it might be better.
This makes me wonder if anyone ever played the actual WoT video game they made 20 years ago? It definitely wasn't a BG style game, more an action RPG/shooter type game, but I never played it.
As Dunstan said, it was fast and loose with the one power mechanics.
BUT... I think it captured the spirit of the first books very well. It was very scary.
You had butchered bodies of Tinkers getting thrown about by Trollocs.
Myrdraal were very hard to kill, hiding in the shadows.
Travelling through the ways was quiet and spooky and the wind will start picking up before Machin-Shin comes. Then you had to find a waygate quick.

Both TEotW and TGH had big One Power battles against armies. TDR just didn't have "armies".
