Most of the members of my team are Indian, and almost all are southern Indian. All but my line manager who is Punjabi.
I much prefer the local pronunciation to the English version. Mysore sounds like something one gets from a drug resistant STD.
What about you? Are you northern or southern Indian?
Haha yeah the spelling is crap. But it used to be pronounced, at least by Indians, as Mysoore. Ooru means town/city in several South Indian languages.
But I generally don't care for the new spelling trend. Most of our major cities have been through a round of it. And almost always, it's chest thumping patriotism from a government failing to do it's actual damn job.
I'm South Indian, but from Tamil Nadu, which is further south than the state in which Mysuru/Mysore is located. But my extended family has been living in Bombay for several generations.
