Season 1 was a fairly good period piece drama that had a few clichés here and there. After that it veered straight into soap opera territory and became absurd on a regular basis. The only decent thing about the later seasons is that some of the characters acquire more depth (the emphasis being on "some" only).
Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
