One thing I enjoyed about the original Midway is that it did a good job of showing the big picture risks taken by both sides. They couldn't know for sure where the enemy was and what the enemy was planning, though the Americans at least had reason to believe an attack was coming at Midway. What the Japanese didn't know ended up being disastrous for them. I like the line "were we better than them today, or just luckier?"
