The previous generations is always the cause of everyone's problems. [Some things change yet some things don't.]

Yet at the same time we have "higher waves" of change some of the time, and we can understand why this is via critical theory.

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Edit: Words works better than Works here

It amuses me to no end that these Gen Z kids think "OK Boomer" is such a clever riposte. I received over 400 replies, most of which were just that. At least some attached a GIF, but sadly very few.

It also amuses me that they brand my generation as being the source of all of society's problems. News flash: we were the most activist generation ever.

We live in a "neo-liberal" age economic wise. But one of the consequences of this and the "washington consensus" since 1982. [Please do not take these words literally, I am quoting them not saying these words have special meaning but you can insert dozens of similar words and they are all partly right and partly wrong.]

But one of the consequences of this prism we view society from, is we gained a moral framework even if we do not realize it. The moral framework, the moral paradigm is this.

1) We live in a meritocratic age where you supposedly can advance in society if you make perfect choices no matter your origin in the United States and similar countries.
2) Yet we find this current society "not satisfying" , satisfying not as in gratifying but instead the religious sense of "building for a future" and "to make restitution" as in justice and repairing injustices.
3) Supposedly in this "market driven" world we are all given lots of choices and thus 2 while not satisfying is still a product created by us collectively choosing all those individually choices.
4) Thus if we are not happy with the final result we are told to choose from a forced creation of choices and choose a sophie's choice where all the options are unsatisfying. There is no winning this game.
5) By prioritizing the individual to such an extent we are thus putting the blame of all society problems on the individual. If something is bad we blame individual people yet we are all to blame and thus we can't blame society.
6) Thus Neoliberalism "makes demons of us all." The problem of evil and this unsatisfaction with the NOW is us, under this current ideological paradigm.

But if you compare history and ideology over different times and space there has been different paradigms of moral blame, and explanations of the origin of evil. There is not a universal concept. But part of a cultural concept is that it becomes so "ubiquitous" that people do not understand there are different ways to view reality. It requires living in a different culture, or doing comparative study such as learning and having an interest in studying this, or being some form of minority where you been demonized from birth and thus you find this interesting. [Shows you my gay card.]

So why is Gen Z [Millenials do this but it is mostly Gen Z] doing this Okay Boomer?

Well they grew up in a different society so instead of comparing cultures via living in a different country, they are instead comparing culture not via space but by time, but time is different in space don't you see.

It is offensive to older people for the Gen Z are blaming Boomers for the problem of evil. Now there is always generational conflict but due to tech and financial reasons the flipitant dismissive is different for the seas these two groups swim in are fundamentally different.

Pretty much this is what The Good Place the show is talking about. Then again Adam Kotsko Neoliberalism's Demons: On the Political Theology of Late Capital and The Prince of This World goes more in depth with this.

Note this is not limited to just our time and space. John Milton and his Paradise Lost is very much tied to what is the concept of King vs Republic Government and how he found his history, the civil war, his political ideology unsatisfying. Instead of limiting it to "Ok Boomer" he wrote one of the great epics of literature.
