They would have preferred it be handled by the states.

But wasn't that one of the larger debates of the Continental Congress? Where should the larger responsibility and power lie? I was lead to believe there were two factions arguing over whether the Fed should be the law of the land or if the States should have that power instead. Pretty sure the 10th amendment is the signal that the Fed is Big Daddy, what with the amendment ALLOWING the states to rule over things not described in the constitution directly.

They, and this is going to sound really strange considering the last 30 years of American politics, had to COMPROMISE and work TOGETHER to find an AGREEMENT THAT GAVE BOTH SIDES WHAT THEY WANTED,both for and against their own interests.

But I could be completely wrong about that. I did go to school in the U.S.
