“I have a feeling that a lot of the numbers that are being said in some areas are just bigger than they’re going to be,” Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity in a phone interview. “I don’t believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators. You know, you go into major hospitals sometimes they’ll have two ventilators, and now all of a sudden they’re saying, ‘Can we order 30,000 ventilators?’”

Especially when there're clear political motivations for an opposition governor to make impossible public demands. He can claim a moral victory for everything he gets; if the diversion of resources hurts someone else, he doesn't pay the political cost; anything bad that happens he will blame on the federal level - "I asked, HE didn't deliver."
The president’s comments came shortly after the New York Times reported that the White House had abruptly called off a plan to announce this week that General Motors and Ventec Life Systems would be partnering to produce as many as 80,000 ventilators, citing concerns with the deal’s $1 billion price tag.

One state, is demanding a third of the resources that might eventually be available, purchased with tax dollars taken from the whole country.
Amid the outbreak, officials in New York and other states heavily impacted by the virus have asked the federal government to provide essential medical supplies to hospitals where resources are stretched thin. According to the most recent figures, there are at least 85,000 confirmed cases in the United States. As of early Friday, nearly half of those confirmed cases have occurred in New York.
That sounds like a New York problem. To be solved with the same can-do spirit with which New Yorkers are determined to defy the rest of the country on issues such as immigration control, and abortion.
Aside from test kits and protective gear, ventilators — which help a person with compromised lungs keep breathing — have topped lists of requests from local leaders.

That doesn't mean they are entitled to have them. Every bureaucrat wants to expand his turf and every employee who isn't responsible for budgets wants the most expensive toys to play with. And every one of them will insist they NEED these things urgently, because they are not the ones who pay the price to get them.

The article is citing lobbyists agitating for their personal interests as if they are an objective indication of anything but those parties' desires. I would bet whatever corporate distributer is publishing this thing wouldn't dream of citing corporate lobbyists' positions in the same manner.

The president then turned to Whitmer, whose name he did not appear to know.
Source?
But although Trump insisted that he is “getting along” with Cuomo and a majority of the other governors, he continued to challenge their requests for help.

So we're finally seeing a return to that lauded civility across the aisle the media regrets the passing of, every time Republicans criticize Democrats.
“I think that a lot of things are being said that are more — I don’t think that certain things will materialize,” he said. “A lot of equipment’s being asked for that I don’t think they’ll need."

Spoken like someone who's spent most of his life dealing with contractors. Almost as if lots of Trump voters actually cited that experience among their reasons for preferring him.
The rest of the article is social media reactions, which you can go read if you care of that kind of nonsense.
No thanks. The article was my limit on nonsense for now.
If New York falls 30-40k ventilators short, that's many multiples of that number dying as a result over the next weeks. I just don't understand what's giving Trump this "feeling".

Long years of dealing with the Cuomo family's bullshit?
