Now its been a while since I've read the books, but wasn't the body of Aran'gar not so much as "chosen" as that it was what was available? It was then remarked that it was ironic that before he pursued women to satisfy his pleasures, where now he was going to be the one pursued.
I always saw the fact that Balthamel within a female body was far more of a punishment.

Exactly. The change imposed by the Dark One is shown to be distorting his memories, and causing Arangar to remember being female when still Balthamel. This, to me, is a signpost that this is not a true change, but a perversion by the Father of Lies. If gender matters to a trans person, it REALLY matters (and BTW, their view would seem to suggest they too accept the gender binary, just not which side of it their plumbing defines for them), and Aran'gar is the wrong one. To the extent that Aran'gar is trans, he is pre-transition and needs to be returned to a male body, stat.
