It amuses me when George Carlin is referrenced as though he supported any specific position... damookster Send a noteboard - 13/01/2023 11:45:55 PM

other than individuals are fine but all organized groups of any kind suck.

Carlin, as a child of the counterculture, was more progressive than anything. Sure he mocked limousine liberals and environmentalists and despised political correctness. But he directed far more of his venom towards Republicans and Conservatives. And despite the fact that many Libertarians love him, he didn't return the feeling.

From Napalm and Silly Putty: "One of the more pretentious political self-descriptions is "Libertarian." People think it puts them above the fray. It sounds fashionable, and to the uninitiated, faintly dangerous. Actually, it's just one more bullshit political philosophy."

Carlin on Republicans: “Have you ever wondered why Republicans are so interested in encouraging people to volunteer in their communities? It’s because volunteers work for no pay. Republicans have been trying to get people to work for no pay for a long time.”

On Conservatives: “Conservatives say if you don't give the rich more money, they will lose their incentive to invest. As for the poor, they tell us they've lost all incentive because we've given them too much money.”
"Once you leave the womb, conservatives don't care about you until you reach military age. Then you’re just what they’re looking for. Conservatives want live babies so they can raise them to be dead soldiers."

Why do I say he was more progressive than anything else? This:

"The violence of the Left is symbolic, the injuries are not intended. The violence of the Right is real - directed at people, designed to cause injuries. Vietnam, nuclear weapons, police out of control are intentional forms of violence. The violence from the Right is aimed directly at people and the violence from the Left is aimed at institutions and symbols.”

I loved George Carlin and read all his books. But I wouldn't ever use him to support any political or religious point of view.
