Well you know I care about this issue, and find it fascinating. For it is an issue with many meanings and many impasses. Our want for a simple answer makes that wish into a trap.
What works for many men and women with it will not work for all of them. So I expect I will enjoy it and be frustrated by it. Likewise I am not complaining about length for I have recommended hour long podcasts on this subject before

Very close to me. But I have not seen good maps that are concrete and physical to know how close to me, how severe. Have not driven down there for that is an unkind thing to do at this moment.
Lets put it this way, in north houston there were 4.5 to 5.0 inches of rain that day. Where I lived in south east houston/sub-urbs it was 1.6 inches of rain. Where the tornados actually happened there were 2 to 3 inches of rain. I am bringing up the rain to signify it was not a typical day but also some people had different experiences for the more rain you got that means you were not in the tornado (real damage path) due to how storms operate.
Based off bad maps that I wish were updated [but is is only 36 hours ago, so I understand] The the worse part of the Tornado was EF3 (136 to 165 miles per hour) and was 18 mile path length with up to 2/3rds of a mile width of wind damage.
But that path was not always EF3. Lots of it was 65 to 80 mile per hour (EF0), yet many other places were EF2 which is still significant.
So I have not driven down there yet to see with my old eyes but the apartments I used to live in, not literally the same complex but the one across the street had EF2 damage (111 to 135 mph) which is the level you lose your roof and your foundation gets damage. That is about 6 miles from where I live now.
But in my neck of the woods 6 miles is very far away if the tornado path is only 2/3rds of a mile wide so no damage at my house. So I been gifted a grace / kindness, but my heart goes out for the people who were impacted. To my understanding no one has died so far, with only 1 serious injury of a human. The tornado also impacted an animal shelter and thus about 100 dogs need homes right now (almost 9 miles away)
