Like the better known infant syndrome, no cause can be determined with a full post-mortem. It's not that rare, with about 4,000 cases a year in the US alone, that doctors know about.

One of the speculations is that it might be caused by a problem with the electrical signals in the heart. Speculation because this can only be diagnosed when the person is still alive.
