This is somewhat reminding me of my single largest objection to Rings of Power - there's so little canonically established about the period in question that they had huge freedom to write a self-contained, coherent story that takes place in Middle-Earth but does its own thing. Obviously that was very much not what they did - but it sounds like Andor does do that and is a much better series as a result.
Whether it's SW, Marvel or other IPs, there's obviously a ton of new content in existing franchises coming out and it's increasingly clear that the only shows/movies that have much value and might stand the test of time, are the ones that have the guts to take their own path - often with self-contained storylines and definitely with makers who have a strong creative vision and dare to take risks, rather than trying to please everyone and ending up catering to the lowest common denominator. Which is more likely to be the case with lower-budget shows, I guess...
I'll make sure to check it out next time I take a temporary subscription to Disney+ - unlike the Mandalorian, Boba Fett etc.
