We disagree on most everything, but on that I think we're of identical mind. It fundamentally breaks the cosmology of the world in a way that I'm not sure anything else could manage.
Also, if it were that easy, why wouldn't Ishamael just become an anti-Buddha, tell everyone about how oblivion is the best, and then off himself that way?
Granted, even with the way Jordan set it up, you enter tricky waters about agency and free will regarding the Dragon soul never turning to the dark.
