One thing I noticed in the game, two players, chosen consecutively in the 2024 NFL drafter, offensive tackle, Joe Alt and wide receiver, Malik Nabors, both left the game with serious injuries, and did not return. Alt's team lost & Nabors' won. I remain vindicated in my stance that the guy who drafted Nabors, instead of rebuilding the offensive line, should be shitcanned ASAP.
That goes for Daboll as well. This was not a well-coached or well-played game. The success of the Giants defense was, like the success of their passing game two weeks ago at Dallas, predicated on personnel losses by their opponent. While Dallas was dealing with multiple injuries to their secondary, and the sudden loss of their best pass rusher, enabling Russell Wilson to look like a professional quarterback, the Chargers had issues on the line, allowing the suspect trio of undersized Edge players to pressure Justin Herbert all afternoon, abetted by multiple drops by his receivers. The vaunted defensive performance didn't stop the Chargers running game, much.
Then there is the offensive side of the ball. Jaxon Dart didn't blow the game. He was okay when it came to passing. But he managed just one real touchdown drive, and the margin of victory was a pair of interceptions that were returned into the Los Angeles red zone, one of which the offense got at the 2 yard line and failed to convert into seven points, settling for a field goal. He's clearly still a rookie and you can tell by his holding onto the ball too long and not quite being in synch with his receivers.
Improving on the awful play thus far is not proof of anything where Brian Daboll is concerned. And they are going to have to be REALLY good to convince any discriminating person next week. A simple win won't cut it, they are up against an execrable Saints team that has lost its last two games by a combined margin of 43 points.
