White Flame did not die protecting me. He spent the night using his protect action, but no one came to kill me. He died in his own room after he had left.


Everyone- here's what we learned from this one post from Talic.

First- Talic and White Flame were linked. There may be other Aes Sedai out there, but Talic and White Flame could talk at night.

Second- Yuna's story holds up. White Flame protected Talic, but no one attacked him. White Flame then trudges back to his room after a night of bodyguarding, only to be murdered by Bergioyn. Isaac had to wait to see who White Flame was going to protect, or some other ability we don't know about.

Third- Talic is definitely an Aes Sedai.

"Second" doesn't make any sense given the way White Flame's role works. Plus the fact that Isaac was waiting for an important action from White Flame. Your scenario makes White Flame's action pretty insignificant since, in your scenario, he would have died no matter whom he protected.

"Third" - True.

"First" - maybe. White Flame could night talk with anyone who he knew was Aes Sedai. It doesn't necessarily mean he was bonded to Talic. He told Talic who he was protecting (NOT Talic). The last part of Talic's info is confirmed by White Flame's death scene.

More about how White Flame's role works

Isaac mentioned it is a mix of the bodyguard and bus-driver roles (with White Flame being one of the two targets), with the Warder concept added in.

Here is what mafiawiki says about bodyguard:

The Bodyguard is a name for many roles:

A role that functions like a normal Doctor.
A role that functions like a normal Doctor, but dies if the protected player is attacked.
A role that has a 50% chance of successfully protecting the target and finds out his target's attacker, and a 50% chance that the Bodyguard dies instead.
A role that kills the attacker of the protected player (also known as Elite Bodyguard).

I bolded the one that I think is most applicable here.

Here is bus driver:
The Bus Driver is a role who may choose to switch two players each night. Thus, any night choice performed on a switched player will affect the other player targeted by the Bus Driver. The Bus Driver's night choices are only valid for that same night.

For example, the Bus Driver switches John and Jack. That same night, a roleblocker targets John and a Goon targets Jack. It will be Jack to be roleblocked and John to be killed. The next night, those players will no longer be switched (unless the Bus Driver targets them again).


Normally, a bus-driver can swap the positions of any 2 players. It seems that White Flame could only swap himself with a limited number of players (whom he knew to be Aes Sedai). So, I think that's essentially what his power was - to die in place of an Aes Sedai.

So, this makes me doubt the truth of the claim that someone directly targeted White Flame and killed him last night. Maybe he had a condition such that whether he was targeted or the AS he was protecting was targeted, only he could die. That removes the possibility that his AS would die if someone targeted him. That's obviously not stated, but perhaps it exists (and it does make sense role wise).


Then let me make it clearer, White Flame was MY warder, I was the other day-mason. I ordered him back to his room after a night of protecting near dawn, and then drifted back to sleep, and then awoke a short time later screaming bloody murder. I don't see how that could have played out as yuna targeting me only to kill white flame on accident. Regardless of how his power worked, I'm pretty sure that actual events would have unfolded in a much different way.
