Lineage - Titus Ingeniare and the Bridge of Amorce Fanatic-Templar Send a noteboard - 10/02/2011 07:32:25 AM
The morning sun does not reach the surface of the Oscuros, running strong and loud at the bottom of the canyon. The waters are brown and opaque, still heavy with their takings upriver where the plains had been flooded. It had been four days since the last rains, and even though the snowmelt from the northern mountains would likely continue to swell the Oscuros for weeks still, people had begun hoping that the especially torrential spring rains that had afflicted them this year had at least come to an end, and that they would soon be able to finally rebuild their homes, plant their crops, and so forth.

While the troubles of the Moolyage were known to Titus Ingeniare, who had after all grown up and lived most of his life there, his own concerns lay beneath the rushing cold waters at the bottom of the canyon - two pillars of stone, concrete and masonry emerged from the flow only to end in jagged mounds. A third could be guessed just slightly below the surface, due to the movements of the water in that region. Of the rest of Amorce Bridge there was no sign, though Titus imagined some of the larger pieces might show up eventually if the summer was dry enough.

The engineer would likely have preferred to wait until the river was shallower, or at the very least slower, but unfortunately the regional Administrator Major himself had commanded that repairs be started immediately. Unfortunately, the river's rise and the bridge's collapse had pretty much made crossing the Oscuros anywhere north of Javen's Arch impossible. Commercial losses would be unfortunate but tolerable, the real problem was the constant need for troops and supplies on the western coast. Ingeniare was to repair the bridge whenever it became possible, but it was imperative that some way be arranged for the Imperial military to cross the river quickly and efficiently at need.

Taking his eyes away from the old bridge's unfortunate remains, he looks instead to his crew. The core are a number of experienced local Moolyagers like Ingeniare himself, who've been working together for years now, but the greater number are Servicemen, citizens from every part of the Empire doing their two years' Imperial Service as workers, and who had been assigned to help you with your task by the Administrator Major. By your estimates, they were unfortunately unlikely to be of much use in any delicate or specialised task, but they'd still be useful enough. A lot of them are also local people, Moolyagers or Cressen or Forkers, though some come from further abroad. There's also a number of kobolds, though you don't know where they're from. You've never been to any kobold lands, rumour says they live under the mountains, which you imagine might be possible since they look like a cross between lizards and rats. Still, the kobolds seem clever and docile, which is certainly not the case of the gnoll Hathree. Half again as tall as any of you, muscular and predatory-looking, and hardly capable of speaking either in the High Speech or the local dialects. You have no idea why a gnoll is doing his Service here, as far as you know they all live in the far north.

As for the supplies the Administrator promised you, they don't seem to have arrived yet. This does not surprise you too much, despite the urgency of the situation, you've seen the condition of the roads. Even though Moolyage is used to some minor spring flooding and has thus built its roads on ridges and crests wherever possible, this last season has been unlike any you've seen in your lifetime. Some were even taking it to be the end of the world. For some people, it had been. But thankfully, not for most.

OoC: Does your character have a religion? I haven't created one yet, so if you've got something in mind, it's probably best to say so now.

Anyway, as I mentioned I don't have any specific plot for you to follow, though I've got something of a timeline of events. We'll see what you choose to do, and what circumstance brings.
