After Soth's display of skill, it's no surprise that the other ropes also get carried across by kobolds with similar ease. You've got a bare skeleton of rope spanning the gorge by the time the light starts fading. Heavy shadows already obscure the gorge, soon it will be too dark to keep working.

I'll have about a third of the group designated to do shifts on guard. I'd also like to half of that group on the other side of the river before it's dark. I figure since it's early spring we're near the equinox and should have about 12 hours of day and 12 of night, so we'll break 'guard' into 4 3 hour shifts and have the last and first do breakfast and dinner since there will tend to be others awake then anyway to supplement their vigil. I'll give the natural night owls and early birds/cooks a chance to volunteer for the first and last shift and we'll draw straws for the two middle shifts for both tonight and tomorrow

I'm not sure what our total count is, I'd gotten the impression it was at least a few dozen and likely two or three times that if not more, but loosely 10% of the people here will be awake for any of the given shifts, so if we're say 60 in number there should be three people awake and reasonably alert on each side of the river and I'd need to get 12 across, if a hundred then 10 and 20 need to get across, preferably before night falls... along with at a minimum some blankets, wood/tinder if necessary, and stout cudgels if they don't have weapons, and it will be my preference to send better-armed of the random people across since they wouldn't have easy reinforcements if something happened. Then I'll brief the guards going over on their code words they are to bellow back over the river every five minutes, using every third word in order of whatever song or anthem I can think of that everyone will know, so the first time they'll bellow the third word, then the second time the sixth word and so on, repeating if the run out of words, the US national anthem is 300 words long or 100 5 minute code words or 8 hours worth, so presumably they can go the whole night with only one repetition depending on what song we have. I will also inform them that screwing up the code will result in spending their next bit of free time scrubbing pots and cleaning cesspits, so hopefully repeating it to themselves and carefully counting out which word is next will help keep them awake. Lastly I will give them two different 'duress words', common ones that don't appear in the song, say 'jam' and 'custard' with jam being their word to bellow for if they thing they see something and are nervous and custard for being if someone has snuck in and got the jump on them and are holding them at knife point. Obviously they are to scream holy hell if they just get attacked. Guards on this side will be told to quietly and discreetly wake me and then whichever else of our posse might be consider 'most martial'.

Last two things, I will have a brazier near the edge where the person can stand and be seen from the otherside and tell them to bellow from there, and I will also have anyone with a bow who remains on the original side sleep nearest the banks so they can be fairly easily identified and coordinated if the s%$t hits the rotating object in the middle of the night, since they'll be in good position to shoot to the other side and alternatively will have a lot of bodies between them and anyone who attacks this side. Also, while I don't know if kobolds have low-light or night vision in this place, even if they do I am still going with random picks these first two nights because I still don't entirely trust them, which can be chalked up to a tendency to metagame my character having a mild case of species-ism and clearly a healthy sense of paranoia.
