The whole thing was mainly to start a discussion. There was a small chance that we'd be lucky enough to have a scummer refuse or argue, and give us a decent Day 1 suspect. Worst-case scenario, in my mind, was that everyone participated, and no more was said. There wasn't much to lose.

But it's not something that I've seen discussed much. (though I can almost remember an off-hand remark in a Wotmania game. I might be wrong.) I figured it was bound to get some discussion, even if it was almost all purely out of character and meta-game, precedent talk.

I don't put much stock into the argument that Darth_Katie's "basic game" comment precludes a Lie Detector. "Basic" can mean a lot of things. It could simply reference the fact that our flavor is much more generic and simple, after theme games of Anime and Superheroes, crossovers, and numerous Wot games. It could mean there are no hybrid roles, it could mean we are much less role-heavy than usual, it could mean a lot of things. And even if D_K meant to only use common basic roles, it wouldn't be surprising if she did throw in a rare role such as a Lie Detector. It is unlikely to interact with any other roles, it can vary in strength quite a bit, and adding weird roles makes fake claims easier.

I don't think the "Basic" comment means much either way. So a Lie Detector is as probable as it has been every other game, IMO, which means it is very unlikely. And, on the small chance that there is one, I did what I could to help him out. If nothing else, the whole thing gave the Improbable Lie Detector a good look at the pros and cons and tricks of his/her powers.


So yeah. I don't consider it a Fiasco at all. And while I hope it helped my standing as Townie in the eyes of everyone, it's something I could consider doing as Scum too, so think what you will.
