Having carefully taken stock of the common room, Xanthe went back upstairs to deposit her hat in the dining room. She was certain that without it she could go completely unnoticed. She untied the the scarf and put it on the table, sparing only a glance for Delat, who had remained in the room. She hoped Maravin would have the sense to return the wine here so Xanthe could work on it properly. That may not be the case though, and it always was better to be prepared. She opened up her belt pouch and pulled out a small bundle of leaves wrapped carefully in thin cloth. This would do quite well. She tucked the bundle carefully and securely into her sleeve, right next to the knife hidden there. That way it would be in easy, inconspicuous reach if necessary. That settled, she slipped out the door and headed back downstairs, grateful for the cover Sammil's performance gave her. Likely she would not have been noticed anyway, but she certainly felt more comfortable with all eyes fixed on the Gleeman. Now where could she find one of those aprons? The kitchens, most likely, or an adjacent back room. Melding with the crowd, Xanthe headed toward the swinging door that signified the entrance to the kitchens to search for an unattended apron.
