I really, really liked The Phantom Menace when it came out. It was all my little nine-year-old-Star-Wars-fanatic dreams come true. It was the best thing ever. And I guess that's why I still have a really soft spot for Episode I in my heart (e.g. Qui-Gon is the greatest Jedi, Queen Amidala has the best outfits). I got all excited for Attack of the Clones and I just remember coming out of the theatre and feeling really disappointed. I was bored. The plot didn't make any sense. I don't know, it just didn't appeal to me at all. When it came out on DVD I rented it and tried watching it again out of a sense of loyalty to my beloved franchise, and I couldn't make it all the way through. I didn't even bother going to see Revenge of the Sith in the theatre. When I finally did see it, the acting and writing was so, so painfully bad that I laughed at it more than anything. I don't know.

Maybe it was just that I had gotten older and was too cool for it. But for me at least, the new trilogy (and particularly Episodes II and III) just lack that sense of wonder and excitement and fun that the Original Trilogy had. Maybe it's because I experienced those when I was so young and really grew up with them. But this summer I played the Knights of the Old Republic computer game for the first time, and it really sparked that feeling in me again of love and excitement for the Star Wars universe. So I don't know what it is. I'm glad you guys get enjoyment out of the prequels, but they're just not for me.
