What a clever attempt to manipulate viewers into overlooking the pointlessness of much of the story!

I really, really liked how they wrapped up the series! Anyone else?
I would imagine that there is some grand statement being made by the writers about how the things we do in life are actually unimportant and significant at the same time, but what do all the trials and tribulations for everyone on the show mean in context now? Nothing. All that their actions and deeds mattered was how it affected their personal growth. The whole island experience was a training camp for death. What a lame concept, especially considering the denials (now exposed as techinicalities and hair-splitting) on the part of the writers that the island was not purgatory, etc.
The story of Lost boils down as follows: a miserable jerk on an island with superpowers rounded up a bunch of lonely a-holes, got them on a plane together, and arranged for it to crash on his mysterious island so they could all make friends and have a happy afterlife together, once they all died to solve his problems for him. Ironically, unlike the characters' stories, where the destination is the important thing, in watching Lost, you can't get too invested in the destination or the answers, and rather you have to enjoy the journey and savor the questions.
