But she is seriously botching her job of protecting the candidates if that was her. Unless it was one of those "Hey, one of our outriggers are missing! There it is out there! I can't tell who it is using it but let's shoot at them."
Having just watched this episode last weekend:
In early season 1 most main characters were candidates, presumably. Charlie's name was in the cave later. Why did Ethan and the Others think it was a good idea to HANG HIM so they could get preggers Claire. Jacob, I am looking at you!
I don't think Jacob actually told the Others anything. Ben seemed to be faking orders from Jacob most of the time just to hold onto his leadership role. I think Jacob just let things play out on their own. Ilana seems to have been the only one told who the candidates might be.
