In all honesty I somewhat agree with you, in that he does need a nearly complete revamp, but the problem is that the idea of Superman is so completely ingrained into the comic book landscape that changing him for the better is damn near impossible. The option then becomes throwing him into battles with these ridiculously powerful creatures like Doomsday, which in itself becomes a problem, because if Superman is a creature of such incredible rarity and power then why are all these baddies that are as strong as him popping up all the sudden?

I've read a lot of comics in my time, and I have to say that I rarely read Superman because he just.....is too 1940's. The Doomsday story was one of the few that I followed and really enjoyed. DC needs to do what Marvel did about 8 or so years ago, and really chase after the top tier of writing and drawing talent and let them go to work on Superman. Hopefully they'll be smarter than Marvel and actually work to retain that talent and pay them what they deserve, because from what I understand Marvel's comic division isn't exactly doing great now.
