A lot of people seem to think that unless a situation is crystal clear: bad guy vs good guy, horrible actions are at least somewhat justified.

I've seen people stay in abusive relationships, because they had done something wrong that set off their spouses almost every time they got beaten. The misconception here is that because there is a seemingly causal relationship between their mistake and them getting smacked around, they can prevent being smacked around in the future by not making any more mistakes. As if that's possible!

The thing is, the punishment simply does not fit "the crime". Wearing a slinky red dress is sexually appealing, but it does not warrant being raped.

Nor does anything that this woman has done warrant the kind of tirade Mel Gibson is throwing at her. Even if she's wearing something slutty.
