Hmm, no they announced that a while ago already. They certainly don't expect it to do really well over here, with no really big stars and the odd geeky subject. It probably also has to do with what other films are starting these weeks, but it still feels pretty random to make it January instead of, say, September.
Subtitles are the superior choice.
