True. And ``Prophecy Girl'' is one of the better episodes of the whole series. At least parts of it.

It has its moments, yes. I think part of the attraction is the simplicity of the whole thing, and of Buffy herself - the innocence, I guess you might say (the white dress is a fairly big clue there). It's fun to see her turn into a rebellious (well, somewhat rebellious) teenager and then an adult, too, but the innocence of early Buffy has something. Not just Buffy, for that matter.

True. ``I'm sixteen years old. I don't want to die''.

But I think the main appeal for me in that episode is Giles. His reaction to the possibility of her death is wonderful. Cliché, perhaps, but wonderful.

I liked the episode with the nightmares becoming real more than Prophecy Girl, though. Perhaps because of Buffy's vampire face, first and last time we get to see that.

Really?
I like parts of that episode, but as a whole it does not appeal to me. I like Buffy being dead as a nightmare, but once we have established that she dreads becoming a vampire, the seeing her as one does nothing for me. Giles' reaction to the headstone is much more effective.

You'd think the word ``vampire'' would do that.

Well, yeah, but people need some visible reminders that "vampire" is more than just a word. Especially in Angel's case - we need more than just his word and vamp-face to know that him having a relationship with Buffy really would be complicated. And in that particular scene, the idea is clearly, for all that the vampire is a superhero, he's still not of her kind, and that she needs humans around her too. And of course he can't give her the kiss of life because he's dead himself.

But it is so clearly a cheap nonsense trick. It is like Rowling's non-Harry povs. Yes, they serve a purpose; yes, they could not be replaced with something more appropriate without it involving much more work -- but that is just the point. And that is why it is annoying.
