I liked it when actors switch directions like that, if they do it well.

I just had a conversation with someone earlier about Mark Strong, who has played so many villains in the last few years (Stardust, Kick-Ass, Robin Hood). I said how cool it would be to see him in a role that is not only not the villain but actually turns out to be a good guy halfway through the film. The other guy said he'd find it weird to see him as someone good.
Am I the only one who, despite of liking certain actors and being glad they are in many films, wants to see people not always cast as the same type?
I would like to see Mark Strong play a good guy too. He's a great villain, but it would be worth a shot.
I have a problem with actors that attempt to do it, but do it poorly or it doesn't work. Your example of Harrison Ford is good. Robin Williams was a big dissappointment for me in Insomnia and the Final Cut as a vilain. I just couldn't get there.
Unexpected casting of the good, the bad and the ugly.

Mark Strong played Mr Knightley in a British version of Emma. (Was it ITV?)

I agree, except about Ralph Fiennes. He's just annoying. *NM*

Gina Torres is playing an insecure, weird neurotic person in Huge currently.

If we could somehow get The Rock to play the tooth fairy, that would be awesome.

That would be nothing compared to Ahnold as either a kindergarten teacher or just plain pregnant.

They keep casting Renee Zellweger as a love interest. Do they hate the male heroes so much?
