Yes, better safe than sorry, imo Darth_Katie Send a noteboard - 20/01/2011 10:31:13 PM
how? why?

Clearly you are no longer a child. It is not the type of body that would appeal to pedophiles, who prey on children.

I don't get it.

Eighteen is the age of legal adulthood in most places, prior to that age there are a good number of restrictions that are primarily intended to protect the children. Making it illegal to distribute pictures or movies of them naked is one of those protections. I suppose they could do something like the laws on tattoos and go "you can pose naked if you've got your parents' permission to do so", but since that would be a nightmare to keep track of, this way is probably better. :P

That would be a complete nightmare ... what about parents who are taking advantage of their children? How do you separate them from actually mature teenagers who are making reasoned choices themselves? It would be impossible, and it's better to just make a blanket statement and legislate that. Practically, you have to draw a line somewhere and 18 seems like a good enough choice.

And of course on an issue like this there is a strong incentive to use the same age cut-off everywhere, else it'd be undermined rather a lot and international cooperation to track down distributors of child porn would be hampered.

I find the idea that a 17-yearold is covered by child porn laws strange - 20/01/2011 03:44:46 PM 731 Views
I think 18 is the cut-off for child porn in most places, regardless of the age of consent. *NM* - 20/01/2011 08:26:30 PM 286 Views

In fairness, there are other considerations than just what turns pedophiles on. - 20/01/2011 08:35:45 PM 665 Views
